I hope you’re well, the dog related restrictions that remain in place within the former Scarborough Borough– beach bans, the requirement to remove fouling, exclusion zones and the requirement to exercise dogs on a lead are all contained within a Public Space Protection Order [PSPO], this enforcement framework needs to be reviewed every three years. This is to make sure that the restrictions are still required, have public legitimacy and are proportionate and balanced. To achieve this we are going to consult with residents/visitors/key stakeholders, we are seeking views on all restrictions within the PSPO, respondents can advise if they agree with the measures, if the area covered is too large/small/no longer required etc, they can also suggest areas not currently covered by a restriction.

It would be helpful to capture the Parish Council’s thoughts or those of individual Councillors on the Order.

It is important to note that other parts of the County have restrictions in different formats, over time the new management team will review these to ensure the restrictions and powers are used consistently across North Yorkshire. Unfortunately the different timescales for this work have meant that we’ve needed to move forward with the consultation to ensure enforcement can continue in the interim.
